Healthy habits during lockdown
One of the positive things that lockdown brought me was to really focus on creating and more importantly maintaining healthy habits. Not always easy, but so worth it! With shops and restaurant closed, restrictions with regards to socialising and not having to travel to work, we are left with more time in our hands. This is precious time that we could spend doing things that nourish us holistically, that bring balance in our mind, body and spirit. I will share my favourite ones below and maybe there is something that appeals to you.
Working out
It took me time to fall in love with exercise, a lot of trial and error...
I remember enjoying running a few years ago and after hurting my knee I sadly had to stop and find something different to keep in shape.
So I joined the gym and started doing weights and going to classes, which I loved. But then lockdown happened and even if I carried on doing some workouts at home, it was hard to keep an exercise routine. I was a bit discouraged, when my friend recommended me https://www.onepeloton.co.uk/app. What I like about it is that there are a variety of workouts to chose from, great music and engaging instructors (check out Jess Sims). Now I am looking forward to do my weight lifting workout and seeing results is so motivating.
Yoga
Yoga is an ancient practice that brings together the mind and the body. It incorporates breathing exercises, meditation and poses to encourage relaxation and reduce stress. There is a lot research about the benefits of having a yoga practice, for me yoga means being present with my body and it brings me a sense of peace and balance in my mind.
If you are not sure where to start, here is an idea of a 30 days home yoga challenge:

Meditation
If you don't know where to start with meditation, this is a fantastic free app that guides you and helps you develop very useful well-being tools like awareness, connection, insight and purpose. https://hminnovations.org/meditation-app. You can set a daily reminder and you have the option for 5-30 min guided meditations that you could listen to when you wake up or just before going to sleep.
Cold showers
Perhaps you've heard of The Wim Hof Method which involves deep breathing and taking cold showers. The cold showers have proven benefits including reducing stress, improving sleep, normalizing hormones, improving sports performance, enhancing immunity, and more.
This is not really something I am looking forward to as I love having my skin turning red in a hot shower or bath, but I am always happy after I've done it as I feel so energised and refreshed.
We all know how beneficial is to have healthy habits in improving our health and living a long and happy life. We can literally extend our life span or even age in reverse by making changes in our life, like this Harvard professor is explaining in this fascinating video. One thing I definitely remembered - drinking red wine is good for you as it contains a compound called resveratrol that promotes longevity and glowing skin! Who am I to argue with science?! :)
